Montage 2008 - Tension
Our annual "Montage" photography competition and seminar is back again. In its 10th incarnation, NUSPS is bringing Montage 2008 back home to NUS, where it all started.
Montage 2008 aims to provide an excellent opportunity for the young photographers to have a greater insight into the professionalism and aesthetics of photography through its seminar on 31 May 2008.
This seminar will be featuring 3 guest speakers namely, Mr Chua Chye Teck, Mr Skye Tan and Mr Kelvin Koh to share their works and professional experience in Fine Art Photography, Fashion Photography and Wedding Journalism respectively.
Highlighting the theme of Tension in the world, Montage 2008 hopes to reflect the interconnectedness of man’s diversity as participants are encouraged to offer their insights and interpretations into these issues in relation to their own personal understanding and experience.

Intermediate Photography Course - 22 Mar 2008
Learning the ropes of photography...
The Intermediate Photography Course was held on 22 March 2008, at the Digital Media Centre in NUS. For the first time, we had participants outside of NUS joining our course.
This being an intermediate course, the participants were generally more experienced photographers, although a few were still starting out. This posed a great challenge to the instructor, Oh Cheng Yu, as he had to cater to a wide range of photographic skill levels.
However, during the group discussion and outdoor photography shoot, the participants were able to clarify their doubts, while some of the more experienced photographers also shared their photography skills with those who were starting out.
Photo-enthusiasts were also able to meet fellow photo-enthusiasts and friendships were formed.
We would like thank Canon for kindly loaning us EOS DSLRs for the course participants.

Basic Photoshop Course - 15 Mar 08

Learning monitor calibration techniques for ensuring colour consistency
Now that you have taken some photos with your camera, what do you do next with them?
The Basic Photoshop Course held on 15 March 2008 answers this question. Instructed by Adi, participants were taught some basic techniques on digital post-processing of their photographs.
Also, we were honoured to have staff from our sponsor, Cathay Photo Store (Pte) Ltd, coming down to the Digital Media Centre and demonstrating monitor calibration techniques to the participants.

Basic Photography Course - 1 Mar 2008
Enthusiastic participants of the Basic Photography Course!
The Basic Photography Course was held on 1 March 2008 at the Digital Media Centre in NUS. This course kicked off a series of exciting photography courses that NUSPS is holding in March.
I had an enjoyable time instructing the participants, and also had great fun joining them in the hands-on photography shoot.
Similar to the participants who took part in the previous Basic Photography Courses organised by NUSPS, the participants this time around also got to use high-end Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras, courtesy of our main sponsor, Canon.

Darkroom Course: The Fundamentals (26 Jan 2008 and 2 Feb 2008)

Zhi Yao, the Darkroom Executive, instructing the course
Participants of "Darkroom Course: The Fundamentals" spent two fruitful Saturdays learning about the fundamentals of darkroom photography, from taking photographs to developing them. Despite this digital age, darkroom photography still garners a lot of interest, as evident from the participants of the course, and the number of people that the Darkroom Executive, Zhi Yao had to turn away, due to the limited darkroom space.
Here's what Zhi Yao has to say:
To all who have participated in the darkroom course, thank you very much for your time and effort.
I hope that you have learnt something from the darkroom course! br>
Here are the prints that have been made in the darkroom course -> Darkroom Course Print br>
The result of the Best print for the basic course would be announced shortly. Thank you for your patience. br>zhiyao
The rest of the photos taken during the course can be found here.

Having fun with film
More darkroom courses are being planned, so watch out for this space. Good work, Zhi Yao and the rest of the Darkroom Course helpers!

NUSPS Bazaar -- "Perspective" (16 to 18 Jan 2008)

What a crowd!
The NUSPS Bazaar 2008 -- "Perspective" was successfully held from 16 to 18 January 2008. During the bazaar, the NUS Central Forum was transformed into a vibrant hub where the NUS community could purchase IT products, savour delicious bites and do some Chinese New Year shopping for clothes and fashion accessories.
Selected photos that were submitted for the "Simplicity" project were also displayed at the bazaar.
Some lucky visitors walked away with free 4R prints of their favourite photos, printed using portable Canon Selphy printers, courtesy of our sponsor, Canon.

Happy users of the Canon Selphy printers =)

Report of Basic Photography Course, 10 Jan 08
The Basic Photography Course was successfully held on 10 January 2008 (Thursday) at the NUS Prince George's Park Function Room 5.
This course was a collaboration between the NUS Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and NUSPS. With the support of our main sponsor, Canon, the 42 course participants had a chance to get some hands-on with professional digital single lens reflex cameras (DSLRs), while learning the basics of photography.
Feedback from the participants was very positive, with more than 90% of respondents agreeing or strongly agreeing that the course was of value to them, and 84% of them wishing to attend more photoraphy courses organised by NUSPS. A few participants did feedback that the 9am timing was a tad too early, this being the school holidays. We will definitely take note of that the next time we organise another course.
Photos of the course can be found at the following link:
